Tips for cooling your home in summer

“I’m more of a winter person” some people say in summer. “I’m more of a summer person” other people say in winter. Really what we all want is to be comfortable and with this heat it can cost a bit more. That’s why today we want to give you some tips to help you to cool your home this summer.

A few tricks to help maintain a comfortable temperature at home without the need for air conditioning.

Shall we start?

1. The fan trick 

If you have a fan, you have a treasure. Place a large bowl full of ice in front of it and add coarse salt. The ice will gradually melt thanks to the salt and this will cool the air down.

2. Well watered plants

Your small outdoor plants can be your greatest allies against the heat indoors. By watering them you will slightly lower the temperature of the walls and outside areas, which in turn can lower the temperature indoors.

Talking of watering, if you need a watering can or it is time to change it, this is a great option.

3. If you are not using it, it’s better to unplug it

The oven, television and all kinds of electrical appliances give off heat even when on stand-by and this can cause the temperature to rise a little. Even the lights can generate heat. If you can avoid using them, you should notice how your house stays cooler.

4. Cool water yes, but not too cold

Obviously water is one of the best ways to cool down at home. It is important to drink frequently but not water that is very cold and in the shower it is better to use lukewarm, rather than cold water. Afterwards your body will be able to regulate the temperature difference better.

5. Cool sheets

If you find it hard to sleep in summer because of the heat, choosing the right sheets can help you. Silk or cotton sheets accumulate less heat than other fabrics and your body will thank you for it at night.

6. The hood saves you

Did you know that the cooker hood does not just only carry away bad odours? It also takes away the heat, so imagine how good it can be for you in summer. Whether you have a vitro or gas cooker, this trick will come in handy every time you cook.
